Video Poker is a popular game that usually will be wagered on in casinos all over the world, or in your house on your home computer, using a net connection. The rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player attempting to get the best combination of cards possible in order to acquire cash. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be useless here.
The game of Electronic Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the play button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the enthusiast would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.
After the bettor has decided on which cards he or she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be handed out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.
Generally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payout schedule can range from game to game, so that knowledgeable enthusiasts are agile enough to choose the most profitable ones each instance.
Once the first round has finished, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to double their winnings, in which case a further hand is played. There are also variations among specific machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing characteristics to increase playability.
