Video Poker is a beloved game that can be gambled on in casinos across the world, or in your house on your personal computer, through a net connection. The rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player trying to achieve the best mixture of cards achievable in order to win money. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with competing players. Of course, methods used in a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the deal button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘distributed’ on the video screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and players will need to now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, from all to none.
After the enthusiast has chosen which cards she wishes to retain, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be given out if desired. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.
Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can range from machine to machine, so that skillful bettors are able to select the most beneficial ones each time.
After the initial round has played out, the player can either decide to continue on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that has been won. Further, some versions of the game give the player a chance to double their profits, in which instance another game is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying elements to enhance playability.
