Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be played in casinos throughout the globe, or alternatively at your house on your computer, using a net connection. The rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to get the highest mixture of cards possible in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, apart from the line of contact with other players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the player inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.
The Electronic Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players should now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, whether it is all or none.
After the gambler has chosen which cards he or she would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards are dealt if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Typically, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable enthusiasts are agile enough to choose the most profitable machine each and every time.
As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, a few versions of the game allow the bettor an opportunity to double their winnings, in which case a further hand is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
