Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be played in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at home on your PC, using an Internet connection. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to get the best assemblage of cards possible in order to acquire cash. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the involvement with other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Video Poker begins when the player inserts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘given out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and bettors will need to now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.
After the bettor has decided on which cards he would like to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any new cards will be dealt if desired. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.
Normally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payout schedule can vary from game to game, so that discerning gamblers are able to choose the most beneficial game every instance.
Once the first round has played out, the player can either decide to continue on and try to to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, some styles of the game give the enthusiast a chance to increase their wins, in which case a further hand is played. There are also differences between specific machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
